Here in the 1881 census record, three years after the untimely death of Mr Ward, we find his widow,Jane, still residing at 5 Newcastle Drive with three of her children and four live-in servants.
Also, in the 1881 Census we find whom I believe to be William G Ward's second son, Thomas Crofts Ward as a 21 years old student at St Johns College, Cambridge. What seems likely to be his death is recorded in 1899 at age 29 ( Registration District Malton (Yorkshire)/ September quarter/vol no 9d page no292)
